Do you have an eating disorder?

Imagine a table serving all the food you desire to eat without any limit to your eating amount. Isn’t it a tempting visual? Now imagine the food that makes your mouth watery is just two steps distanced from you, but you cannot eat it. Isn’t it hard? That’s how hard it is for the patients suffering from eating disorder. Eating disorder is not a choice. It’s a way of coping mechanism for them. It contains a sense of purpose in the life of person suffering from it. For them it’s a way of escape from the feeling of not being good enough. It serves them with a purpose of being in control. Even after serving all these purposes, ruling out it’s unhealthy in fact deadliest nature is not an option. Eating disorder is the third deadliest disorder among teenagers. Eating disorder does not discriminate and can be present in any one of us.  Wondering how it develops and work is not an uncommon question. Eating disorder is a psychological condition concerning the disturbed food habits of the person, develop by their own obsessive thoughts of being overweight or thoughts concerning their weight. They make rules regarding their food habits and persists on following them even after those habits appear to be unhealthy and deadly to themselves as well.

 

 

 

Eating disorders like Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia nervosa and Bing eating involves the unhealthy eating habits adopted by the person that serves them the purpose of control. Skipping meals, elongating meals hours as much as possible, not eating at all, consuming only limited number of calories in a day as per their rule guide, eating excessively and then frequent visits to bathroom, excessive exercising, inappropriate methods of taking food out of the body (induced vomiting, using laxatives), eating alone or refusing to eat etc. are some of the examples of the behavior adopted by them.  But this sense of control brings out the worst of them. Those who suffer from eating disorder, it deteriorates their physical and mental health horrendously. Eating disorder is closely associate with dehydration, cardiovascular problems, gastrointestinal problems, neurological problems and immunological problems. Person suffering from sever condition of eating disorder may not be able to bear his or her own weight and may need support of others for their daily work. Along with the physical problems eating disorder also cause the other psychological problems. Anxiety, depression, increase in suicidal thoughts, self-harm, memory loss, insomnia etc. are some common example.

 

Person suffering from eating disorder find it hard to maintain the healthy eating habits as they are arrested by their own rule book which guide them and encourage their unhealthy eating habits. This condition increases their need of help to get back to their normal life. As have said earlier eating disorder is not a choice but getting over it and reaching out for help is the one.
